Rasmus Hojlund will return for Manchester United for their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Liverpool on Sunday, says Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand.

The 21-year-old forward had been in scintillating form for the Red Devils, scoring in each of his last six matches and racking up an impressive eight goals and two assists since breaking his Premier League duck against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. But Hojlund picked up a muscle injury in training last month which has seen him miss the last four matches, with United struggling as a result. However, they have been handed a potential boost after Denmark boss Hjulmand offered a bold prediction.

Hjulmand told Danish outlet on Tuesday: "It is clear that Rasmus will play on Sunday against Liverpool and must get through the game well. We expect that. We are in contact with United. I have spoken to Erik, and we expect that to happen. But it is clear that he has to get through the game, and there must be nothing on the other side for that to be possible."

The words of the Denmark coach echo those of Erik ten Hag, who suggested Hojlund would be available to feature against Liverpool at some capacity. How United could do with their mercurial forward, too, given their struggles up top in his absence. Marcus Rashford has looked out of sorts in a more central position – aside from his screamer against rivals Manchester City – as United have mustered just five goals since Hojlund's injury. Two of those, which came against Everton on Saturday, were from the penalty spot.

Ten Hag is yet to confirm Hjulmand's prediction as United fans eagerly await an update on Hojlund's fitness ahead of a match which represents their last opportunity to win silverware this term. Whether as a starter or off the bench, any involvement from the Dane is likely to give United a major boost against their arch rivals on Sunday.
