With the clock ticking over into the 16th minute of the game, Bellingham pounced on an Alex Palmer parry to stick home what he thought was the opening goal of the game between Sunderland and West Brom. However, the goal was ruled out by the linesman after he incorrectly judged Bellingham to be offside – despite Cedric Kipre playing the young star well onside.

Should Sunderland not win their game against West Brom, they will have every right to complain. There is no VAR in the Championship and the Black Cats will be ruing the absence of technology. Despite the form of Bellingham, Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts, Sunderland have struggled for consistent goals and are without a manager after sacking Tony Mowbray.
